There are a number of reasons why black coffee can be used as a great weight loss aid.
Calories in Black Coffee
The most obvious reason for drinking black coffee on a diet is that it has so few calories.
In fact, there are only around 1-2 calories per 100ml of black coffee. That’s so low that it’s going to have almost zero impact on your diet.
When people talk about coffee containing lots of calories they’re referring to variants that aren’t black. Lots of coffees contain other added ingredients such as milk, cream, sugar, and syrups. These additions really ramp up the calorie content of the drink.
With black coffee, you don’t need to worry about that.
Sweeteners Over Sugar
Sweeteners such as Aspartame and Sucralose do exactly what they say on the tin. They sweeten whatever you add them to.
One of the bonuses of sweeteners is that they contain almost no calories at all. This isn’t the case with sugar so you may wish to swap it out for a low-calorie alternative if you like your coffee sweet.
However, there are a couple of things to note here. Firstly, artificial sweeteners don’t taste the same as sugar. They can often leave an aftertaste that isn’t too desirable. This all comes down to personal preference, however.

Caffeine has also been shown to increase the number of calories your body burns naturally, even when you’re resting.
This suggests that drinking coffee could help you to lose weight faster.
However, it must be noted that studies show the increase to be minimal. Consuming caffeine isn’t going to magically burn lots of fat for you.
Although drinking black coffee can certainly be used as a weight-loss aid, it’s important to be cautious.
Consuming too much caffeine can lead to some nasty side effects such as anxiety, nausea, increased blood pressure, and insomnia. At high enough levels it can be extremely dangerous.
This isn’t here to put you off drinking black coffee on your diet. In fact, it’s a good idea in moderation. Just don’t overdo it.
