As there is no known cause of IBS, different things can cause flare-ups for different people. Examples that relate to coffee can include caffeine stimulation, dairy, sugary additives and so on.

Studies also show that coffee consumption is associated with the release of a hormone called cholecystokinin.
Cholecystokinin is linked with the stimulation of bowel movements.

Firstly, you could reduce your overall coffee intake. If you drink a lot of coffee then you might be overstimulating your gut.
